About Us
Friendship Community Gardens
Our Mission
To community garden at the intersection of three diverse neighborhoods in order to plant, grow, and harvest healthy food options for local residents while creating space for racial and disability reconciliation within our community.
Who We Serve
Savoy Heights Community: Offering Community Gardeners individual, raised bed garden plots
Friendship House Fayetteville: An intentional living community on the peninsula of Highland Ave, Arsenal Ave and Broadfoot Ave.
How To Support
Join us for Busy Bee Days, where we tackle special projects like building compost stations and maintaining the orchard. Rent a garden bed to grow your own produce or donate today to help us connect people through the power of gardening!
Friendship Community Gardens hopes to utilize gardening and its unique location to build new relationships across existing racial and ability barriers while also helping to provide sustainable food options for those living in our community.
The garden site is located at the intersection of the Savoy Heights neighborhood, Haymount, Friendship House Fayetteville, and the Forest Lakes neighborhood—a community of diverse financial, intellectual and physical abilities. The benefits of neighbors working side-by-side to grow healthy foods are innumerable! Benefits would include:
helping single-parent families with limited resources to supplement their tables with locally grown produce
teaching local children how to make healthy food choices through horticulture
supporting young adults with disabilities as they learn to lead more independent lives
supporting neighbors in our community that are very often marginalized
Unlikely friendships will likely be established! And unlikely friendships are critical for our community’s physical, mental, and spiritual well being. Using sustainable, organic gardening practices, Friendship Community Gardens connects people of all socioeconomic and ability backgrounds in order to both provide healthy nutritional options and cultivate friendships where everyone in the community grows.
